My times are in your hand. —Psalm 31:15

Pa was born on November 30, 1936 in Ranni-Kandenperoor in Kerala.  His parents were Mathai Puthuparambil and Annamma Kappamamoottil. Their occupation was rice farming, and they raised Pa and his six siblings in a devout household and an assembly of the Brethren movement.

After his education at the Kariamplav Noel Memorial and Nellickamon Ebenezer schools, Pa trained to be a professional clerk and stenographer and found employment in Himatnagar, Gujarat.

On November 22, 1962, he married Marykutty Mathai of the Thazhayil-Valuparambil family in Elanthoor.  God blessed them with three children: Shirley (b.1963), Charley (b.1967) and Titus (b.1974).

In 1970, Pa moved to Doha, Qatar. He worked for Citibank for nine years, got to bring his family from India for two-month visits with him in the summer months and vacation in India for another month in each of those years.  Pa and Ma bought a house in Ranni-Kariamplav in 1974.

In 1983, Pa immigrated to the United States with the help of his brother-in-law, Pastor Thomas Mathai and family.  He found employment with Blue Cross Blue Shield and then with the New York City Housing Authority where he worked till his retirement in 2000.  He lived in the house he bought in 1984 in Bellerose, Queens.

In New York, Pa belonged to the India Pentecostal Church in Queens Village for 9 years and the Elim Full Gospel Assembly in its Bellerose, Elmont and Glen Cove locations for a total of 28 years.

Pa was athletic in his youth and participated in BalajanaSakhyam activities also.  He had a passion for growing produce and planted whatever parcel of dirt there was in all the places he lived.  He enjoyed tending to the bitter gourds, hot peppers, string beans, spinach, squashes, harvesting and pickling them and giving them away.  Pa took great delight in his six grandchildren. He enjoyed supporting the local church, long conversations and reminiscences with like-minded and good-natured people, hosting fellowship meetings and attending them, organizing and maintaining contact directories for the church.

Pa enjoyed 55 years of married life until Ma passed in November 2017.  He leaves behind his children Shirley, Charley and Titus.  Shirley and her husband Thomas Varughese Valiyakalayil are parents to Kevin, Brian and his wife Caitlin, and Dan; Titus and his wife Anita Ninan (Peedikaparampil) are parents to Amelia, Phoebe and Leah.  Pa’s siblings also survive him: Kunjamma Thomas, Thomas (Babychen) Puthoor, Thankamma George, Chinnamma John, George Puthoor and Samuel (Joykutty) Puthoor.
